If you’ve ever wanted to see what’s inside Coffs’ new courthouse without feeling guilty or facing accusations then the time has arrived.

The Friends of the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery are taking the arts to court on November 24 and everyone is invited.

With special permission granted by the Attorney General, the courthouse gardens and foyer will be transformed for an entertaining evening featuring an impressive line-up of national and local arts voices.

The event heralds a new phase for the Arts on the Coffs Coast, held on the eve of the STILL exhibition and in anticipation of breaking ground on the new regional gallery space.

All funds raised will go towards acquiring new artworks for the gallery’s still life collection.

Organiser and President of the Friends, Heather McKinnon, is no stranger to performing at the courthouse in her day job as lawyer for Slater+Gordon.

“The courthouse is a dramatic feature in Coffs and it’s unique design has been turning heads since it opened, so we are thrilled to be staging our arts event here,” Heather said.

The airy and curvaceous building is surrounded by tropical gardens and incorporates contemporary Aboriginal design inside, with views through a towering wall of glass to tall eucalypts outside.

“This is the opportunity for locals to experience the courthouse while being entertained with fantastic performances and enjoying gourmet food and drinks,” Heather said.

“Most importantly you will be helping us put Coffs on the Australian Arts map as we work to connect more of our community with the arts.”

On the night, ABC Radio and TV host James Valentine will lead one of his famous “pub chats”, with a panel of accomplished creatives.

Scott Muller from Ten Tenors fame will provide a private concert and John Thiering will create one of his world famous sand paintings.

Students will also entertain with mime, circus and interactive art displays.

‘Art Goes to Court’ is on Friday November 24, from 7pm - 10pm, at Coffs Harbour Court House, 2-16 Beryl Street, Coffs Harbour. Cost: $75 per person including all food, beer, wine and soft drink. Tickets and information online: friendschrg.com.au
