DORRIGO: This friendly town is just half an hour from Bellingen and situated on the edge of the Great Dividing Range escarpment.
Highlights include the drive there via Waterfall Way, rainforest walks, lookouts, waterfalls, wildlife, chic cafes, restaurants, unique shops and Made in Dorrigo day on Saturday July 8.
Every three months Dorrigo shows off it's diversity with street stalls displaying artisan and unique produce from the plateau region and local businesses offering a special flavour that is unique to Dorrigo.
On the east side of the town, the Dorrigo plateau drops away into the World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests of Dorrigo National Park.
The Canopy Cafe is perched on the edge of the escarpment with stunning views across the entire National Park. With new owners, they are open seven days a week from 9am-4pm for coffee and stunning food made from incredible local produce.
At the Dorrigo National Park Rainforest Centre, take a stroll on the popular Skywalk walkway and enjoy the educational interpretation centre.
Visit Dorrigo township, in the centre of town, the pub, bakery and country stores take you back to an era of traditional, rural Australia mixed with an influx of chic with cafes, boutiques, galleries and food stores.
At 14 Cudgery Street, you will find Red Cedar Emporium. An excellent store filled with wonderful curated finds, spanning homewares, beautiful clothing, timber and resin jewellery, accessories and shoes.
Visit Dangar Falls for a picnic. Two kilometres north of Dorrigo town centre, a beautiful 30m waterfall is located.
There’s a viewing platform, picnic tables and a walking trail that leads you to the river at the bottom of the waterfall. The platform offers a great vantage point and excellent photo opportunity of the falls.
For a relaxing farmland and forest drive, take the Waterfall Way about 10km out of Dorrigo and watch for the Fernbrook Loop Road sign off the to the right. It’s only about 5km loop but it’s high and you’ll look north over the Little Murray River and grazing country.
Drop by the RSL or the iconic Heritage Hotel for a tasty meal or stay over with newly renovated rooms at the hotel from $120 per night.
