The streets were bustling with locals and visitors alike and there were many bargains to be had and lots of meals and coffees to refresh the weary.
The crowds brought a welcome boost to the local economy. The downside, of course, was the wash-out of the market, which usually draws many shoppers and browsers to town.
So we know that Bellingen is an attractive place for visitors and residents – something worth promoting more than just one day a year. The Bellingen Chamber of Commerce exists to support and represent local business, and to this end next year’s event will broaden the idea of the annual sale event to include a shop local message, as well as promoting the town as a great place to visit and enjoy, offering a unique experience.
For six weeks from early May next year, Bellingen will host the events that highlight what we all love about the place – a food and drink festival, buskers, markets, a garage sale trail, even duck races and a canoe race on our beloved river. There will also be the chance to win prizes from your favourite shops by supporting them with your business.
Think of the Bellingen economy as a basket - every dollar you spend in town stays in the basket and is spent again and again, making for a vibrant, healthy community providing jobs for us and our families.
We invite and encourage comment and ideas for activities you think would be good for Bellingen and its businesses. Don’t be shy – it's your community!
