The Forum was attended by approximately 25 people, including Planning Consultants, Architects, Real Estate Agents, Developers as well as Council staff and Councillors.
General Manager, Liz Jeremy, said: “It is important that we hear from the people who regularly deal with our planning instruments. We appreciate that the development industry holds practical advice on what the impacts of particular forms of regulation will be on development feasibility and the chance to bounce ideas off each other in a format such as this is a valuable form of consultation for Council”.
At the forum, Council Officers provided updates on the review of the Shire wide Development Control Plan, a proposed Footpath Trading Policy and the review of Rural Lands Planning Policies that was currently hosted on Council’s ‘Create’ Engagement Hub.
As well as recording suggestions made by those attending the forum, a proposed method for consulting with the development community on future projects was also discussed.
“Over 90 people filled in surveys for our recent consultation on Rural Lands Planning and this indicates to us that the community have embraced this new way of engaging with Council. On the back of this, we intend to launch a project in the near future that will allow Development Industry professionals to register their interest, via the ‘Create’ Hub in being involved in future discussions of this nature”, added Ms Jeremy.
