A spokesperson for Port Macquarie-Hastings Council said the priority was to make the area safe for beach users.
“The rain event has caused erosion to sections of the Town Beach area,” the spokesperson said.
“Some of that damage is quite significant and was caused from the water flowing through there.
“Staff are down there making it safe and undertaking structure assessments to mitigate any further damage.”
Once that initial work is complete council will look more thoroughly at any further works required to make the area safe.
The spokesperson said council workers had removed some signage and the beach shower in the interim.
“We have had tractors down there (on Thursday morning) and as soon as an assessment is complete we can advise the public what we are doing to ensure the safety of beach users.”
