Auction signs are now seen for this area.
The 2009 flood covered there and caused much building damages. I wish to challenge the proposal to auction Lot 12 in Urunga.
This area includes a creek running from west of the railway line to the area known as the Lido.
I believe any structure along Orara St will obstruct water flow which has the potential for 2009 disaster.
Remember how ambulance station was flooded in 2009 which effectively put that essential service out of action for several days – won’t happen again we’re told ...
Also there are a number of birds, frogs and other wildlife that call the Orara St wetland home.
It is a source of oxygen from green respiration. Something sadly being destroyed in the name of progress.
Just letting you know so that you object to Bellingen Shire Council if you feel so inclined.
COUNCIL RESPONSE
“The land has a longstanding residential zoning that permits a variety of different types of residential development with consent.
“The land is mapped as being subject to the 1:100yr flood event and is in a ‘’flood storage area’’.
“In this area, Council has a rigorous set of development controls in place to ensure that any filling of the landfill does not affect drainage or surface run-off, or have a measurable impact on flood behaviour beyond the property boundary.
“Any development of the land would also need to address the potential habitat value of the site and noise and vibration issues from the railway.
“Whether or not any future owner can realise any development potential from the land will degree upon the extent to which they can address constraints such as those documented above.
“There is no Development Application before the Council to develop the land.”
