Seven serious games at split venues in every one hour time slot from 8am to 9pm each day surely tested the planning efficiency of the organisers but the carnival only brought rave reviews and compliments from the over sixty teams participating.
Like the majority of the round games, the Sunday afternoon grand finals saw eight dynamic contests as the cream of regional boy and girl basketballers battled out their respective age group sections for their share of the $1800 worth of quality trophies.
Coffs Harbour Suns dominated the upper end of the carnival divisions with their under 17 boys and girls teams contesting their respective grand finals with Coffs Black team boys 31 rolling Coffs Red boys 24 in their hard fought clash while in under 17 girls it was Coffs Red 30 out-shooting Coffs Black 19 to take the bragging rights and winners trophies.
The under 15 girl’s division grand final saw a sensational contest between Ipswich Force and a composite Ohana Learning Centre team with the Force edging out their gutsy opponents 61 points to 51 points in a crowd-pleasing display of precision shooting and slick teamwork.
The Ipswich under 15 guys also took out their grand final laurels with a great 49 points to 26 victory over Coffs Harbour Suns.
Immerging as a strong association Byron Bay Beez showed class and determination to win the exciting under 13 boys grand final 49-24 against Port Macquarie Dolphins while South Brisbane Spartans took home the trophies in under 13 girls division 46 points to 22 against a determined Coffs Harbour Black team.
In the under 11 grand finals Port Macquarie Dolphins boys outlasted Coffs Harbour Suns to win their grand final 45 -13 while a very professional Ipswich Force under 11 girls team already in the middle of their 2016-2017 representative South Queensland season rolled Taree Tornadoes 34-8 in their grand final.
