Jordan, Clément and Aurélien are undertaking a project, Ocean Cleaner’zh, which involves collecting waste on beaches; raising awareness in schools on water management and eco-friendly habits; and collating scientific data.
“We started our journey in Australia from Cairns two months ago,” Clement said.
“We lead beach clean-ups along the way, with other associations such as the Surfrider Foundation, Boomerang Alliance and Positive Change for Marine Life.
“The data about the garbage we collect is then put on the Tangaroa Blue Database. Our objective is to do 45 clean-ups around the world.”
Meeting people and associations along the way is also key, Jordan said.
“To learn more about the issues linked to the oceans and communicate this information to the public.
“We've worked a lot on the preservation of the Great Barrier Reef interviewing The Great Marine Park Authority, Australian Institute for Marine Science, Reef Check, CAFNEC and the inventor of the robotic killer of the crown of thorns starfish.
“Our objective is to meet 60 advocates for ocean protection.”
Recently in Coffs Harbour, Aurélien said taking his message to the youth was also very important.
“We educate in schools to raise awareness about marine debris, plastic pollution and how to preserve the coast and oceans,” he said.
“Our objective is to educate 3000 children, give a message of hope and encourage them to do their part for ocean protection.”
