The award-winning show, which features a unique combination of world music, contemporary jazz and digital beats was originally broadcast from 2004-2008 by presenter-producer Seth Jordan – one of 2BBB’s founders in the 1980s, and a key member of the Bellingen Global Carnival team.
Seth went on to management and broadcasting roles at radio stations in Bathurst, Canberra and Sydney. Most recently he served as content services manager for the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia, supervising the organisation’s national program network.
Having returned to live in Bellingen last year, Seth has continued his work as a freelance music journalist and festival consultant, as well as promoting local concerts by touring Australian and international musicians.
“It’s been awhile since I did a regular weekly program,” Seth said. “But since I still have good access to lots of excellent music and interview opportunities with some interesting musos, I thought it was time to get back into the broadcasting side of things by reopening the audio Tiki Lounge.”
The revamped new program, re-badged as “The Tiki Lounge Remix” will be broadcast on 2BBB, 93.3 & 107.3 FM, on Sunday nights from 9pm to 11pm, and distributed to other stations around the country via the Community Radio Network.
“We used to have about 50 stations rebroadcasting the program weekly to their own listeners,” Seth said.
“It’ll take several months to build up those numbers again, and we’re encouraging stations to take it by offering either the full two-hour show or just an edited one-hour version, if that fits better within their existing broadcast schedule.
“I’ll also be featuring several regular music correspondents, who will keep us up to date with what they’re hearing and seeing – people like Rhoda Roberts who’s the Indigenous Producer at the Sydney Opera House, and ex-ABC broadcaster Jaslyn Hall, who’s based in Barbados these days. It’ll be good to be back on the local 2BBB airwaves again – I’m glad it’s still on-air after all of these years!”
