For Shire residents who receive the town water supply permanent Water Conservation Measures are always in force which ban unattended hoses between the hours of 9am to 4pm however residents are now asked to be extra vigilant with their water usage to avoid Level 1 restrictions being imposed.
Under the conditions of Council’s Water Extraction Licence, Water restrictions must be imposed when flows in the Bellinger and Bielsdown Rivers reach certain trigger points.
Level 1 water restrictions will be implemented when the flow in the Bellinger River reaches 47ML/day, and/or when flows in the Bielsdown River reach 20ML/day.
Currently the flow in the Bellinger River is 56ML/day, with the Bielsdown River at 59ML/day. In both cases the flows are falling.
A Water Restrictions Table outlining what is permitted in all levels of water restriction can be found on Council’s website at www.bellingen.nsw.gov.au by following the hyperlink under Notices on the home page.
Further information will be communicated when the water level drops to restrictions levels but in the meantime please adhere to the Water Conservation Measures and conserve our precious resource.
