When was the last Bellingen Public School fete? Around 2000.
Why the comeback? The school has been struggling to fund some major projects that are important to 21st century student learning, so a major fundraising event was needed. The P&C has been low in numbers for a number of years, so the idea of a community event is to draw in some support for the school and its students. The idea of a fete seemed to facilitate both fundraising and supporting a growing P&C.
What can we expect at the fete? The fete will be held within the school grounds, giving the broader community the opportunity to see the wonderful facilities and environment the Public School offers. There will be a mega raffle, silent auction and prizes of community supported products and services. There will be activities for kids including face painting, plaster painting, temporary tattoos, hair and nails, jumping castles, sumo suits, guessing games, lob-a-choc and a photo booth/selfie stall.
Who will be entertaining us? Entertainment will be provided by local students from Bellingen Public School and their teachers, local dance companies will put on displays and other local artists are contributing to the day.
Will you have dunk the teacher in the water tub? No.
What can we buy at the fete? There will be things to buy from the class stalls including handicrafts, plants, fresh produces, jams and preserves, lucky bottles and bon-bons. There will be Roses recycled woodcraft and Park Lane will have a jewellery stall.
There will be food and drinks available including a sausage sizzle, steak sandwiches, chicken sticks, vegetable patties, soft drinks and water, as well as a Chai Tea and cake stall. You can then finish it all off with an ice-cream! Tuckshop Bellingen will also have a catering stall on the day.
Will you have hit the teacher with the water bomb? No.
When and where is it on? Saturday, October 29 from 10-3pm at Bellingen Public School, Lovell St, Bellingen.
The Glyde family have a long history in Bello. What can you tell me about your family? The Glyde family are renowned for their community participation and teaching heritage. There are not many who have been through Bellingen Public, who wouldn’t know Mr or Mrs Glyde. If you missed them at school, you may have encountered them with Scouts or Guides, junior or senior rugby league, bowls, athletics, golf, sewing circles, church, markets, or farming. They are definitely an over achieving family to join!
