The community update on heavy vehicles using the mountain road also sheds light on what RMS has been doing to improve Waterfall Way’s safety.
“Since the release of the Road Safety Review last year, Roads and Maritime has completed 16 recommendations and further activities are on track for completion this year,” a spokesperson said.
“During the past six months two new vehicle activated speed limit signs were installed, changes were made to give way signs on Dorrigo Mountain to improve traffic flow, improvements were made to landslip sites at Newell Falls and Weeping Jenny, and new road signage was installed at Fernmount.
“Road shoulder improvements at Gordonville Cutting and Myers Bluff and drainage improvements on Dorrigo Mountain are complete.”
RMS added the concept design for the Bellingen CBD is progressing well, and a number of other projects are nearing completion.
“Repair work on a 300 metre stretch near Little North Arm Rd is close to completion,” the spokesperson said.
“Road improvements at Sweedman’s Ln and repairs to a landslip at Newell Falls are due to start this month.
“And the Rotary rest area along Waterfall Way is being monitored after recent heavy rain – we are working with Bellingen Shire Council to determine the best outcome for the site.”
Plans for a bus stop at Thora are also being finalised.
In addition to implementing upgrades and monitoring vehicle movements, RMS has been advised by Lend Lease that only 20 per cent of quarry materials come from Dorrigo. The remaining 80 per cent are sourced either onsite or from other quarries
