In a bid to make themselves leaders in this field, USTC has had a busy winter upgrading its certification and putting four members through the YA accredited National Power boat Certificate and the YA accredited Safety Boat Operator Certificate.
Last month they hosted a YA accredited dinghy instructor's course and are proud to announce a team of four instructors plus two assistant instructors.
Ready for the season ahead, USTC is set to start 2014/15 nationally recognised YA
Discover Sailing Start Sailing 1 and 2 Certificate courses (SS1&2).
Women on Water (WOW) classes for ladies only start next Wednesday, October 15 from 10am till 1pm with Start Sailing 1 and 2 courses beginning on Saturday, October 18 from 11am till 2pm.
Courses run for three hours each training day over seven weeks (eight weeks for schools and other organisations) weather permitting.
All courses are subject to minimum numbers and 'first in first served' applies.
Skills learned on the courses include understanding the language of those mysterious 'bits on boats', rigging/unrigging a sailing dinghy, launching and retrieving your boat and much more.
Training boats and all necessary safety equipment is provided by UTSC.
The club is also the home of Sailability Urunga with two specially designed ACCESS dinghies for people with limited abilities.
These boats have heavy keels to prevent them capsizing thus ensuring they are safe for anyone with mobility issues to use.
Located on the corner of Bellingen and River Streets, Urunga, just under the Urunga railway bridge, UTSC courses are held on the Kalang and Bellinger rivers, the perfect environment for safely learning to sail small boats.
Courses are open to all ages from nine to 85 irrespective of skill and ability.
