He inched past teammate Jarri-Matti Lavala by just 0.4 seconds on the day's eighth and final test, the second pass through the Hyundai Super Special Stage.
Finnish driver Latvala was a further 3.1 seconds ahead of Norway's Andrea Mikkelsen, giving the German team a shot at the five points it needs to secure the World Rally Championships for Manufacturers on this 10th round of the season.
