This will follow on from the approval of DA 2955, which allows an increase of weight from 22 tonnes to 32 tonnes travelling down the mountain road from Dorrigo, through Bellingen and continuing along the Waterfall Way to the Pacific Highway.
Additionally, there will be another 200 truck movements travelling the same route empty, for the return trip, totalling 400 extra truck movements, potentially.
The organising group would like to hear from anyone with concerns for road safety along the route and is preparing an issues paper for Bellingen Council and the RMS.
It has invited them to send representation to this meeting to discuss immediate improvements to pull off areas on the mountain, the zebra crossings in Bellingen and the turnoff to Fernmount.
Discussion will include any other issues of safety from the impact of this development on residents from the shire and those visiting the region.
The meeting will also send messages to the Minister for Roads, Duncan Gay, and Andrew Stoner, the Member for Oxley, and the Minister for Planning, Brad Hazzard, letting them know of grave community concern about the main road classification of the Waterfall Way and no limitation to the number of heavy vehicles travelling down the mountain road in particular, and along the Waterfall Way to the Pacific Highway.
