Letter: Bellingen Shire's strength in diversity, not in a brand

THE BEAUTY of Bellingen is that it is not branded, reflecting the diversity of the people which make up its community.

I have seen many changes over many years and would hate to see it lose its unique character and charm due to commercial branding. Its appeal to locals and tourists alike are that it is what it is.

Trying to fit the Bellingen Shire into one brand may be contrary to what the intention of marketing and branding is.

Branding has one purpose which is to create a marketable product.

Our area has generated enough interest on its own back.

We need to preserve the right to evolve organically rather than based on a commercial branding exercise.
