More than 900,000 job seekers are set to benefit from the establishment of 25 Local Jobs Regions and taskforces across Australia as their specialised expertise and local knowledge will help get more Australians back into work.
Minister for Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business Michaelia Cash said tailoring solutions specific to local areas was vital to helping regions recover.
"Local communities and small and family businesses know what works best for them - taskforces will bring together the expertise of local employers, employment and training providers and other local stakeholders, to develop projects purpose-fit for local jobs," Minister Cash said.
"Importantly, each taskforce will maximise opportunities to move people back into work and reskill or upskill to meet employer needs."
Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan is encouraging business and community representatives with an interest in helping local job seekers get back into work to apply for one of 10 possible positions on the local taskforce.
"The Mid North Coast Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce will identify key employment priorities, local labour needs and design practical solutions in a Local Jobs Plan for our area," he said.
"It builds on the principle of the Morrison-McCormack Government's JobMaker Plan to enable a business-led economic recovery. The taskforce will be supported by an Employment Facilitator and information from the National Skills Commission will help to inform the Local Jobs Plan.
"Members of our taskforce will need a desire to make a difference in the lives of their fellow community members and some expertise in skills and our regional economy. I encourage interested people to apply by 6 October."
Taskforce members will be selected from a cross-section of key local stakeholders, including employers, training organisations, employment service providers, local and state government representatives, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community representatives and other community organisations.
