Called the Providence Road Fire, it began in remote, isolated bushland in the Juugawaarri Nature Reserve over a week ago, on Sunday August 16.
By the end of last week it had been marked as "under control" but it flared up again outside containment lines after being reignited on Sunday night and Monday morning.
This morning (Wednesday) the Mid North Coast Fire Control Centre said the fire was growing steadily. "The fire is currently burning north and south of Providence Road/North Ridge Road and is now over 45 hectares in size."
They noted that fire investigators have assessed the initial ignitions and the subsequent ones and asked people to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if they have any information.
Crews from the Rural Fire Services, National Parks & Wildlife Service and NSW Forestry are working with heavy plant to consolidate control lines and actively backburning where it is safe to do so.
Residents around Kalang/Cooks Creek area will see an increase in smoke and fire activity over the coming days.
