The timber industry fails to understand that the public forest is critical as a habitat for the many animals we share this country with. A tree also acts as a storage for CO2 and will help reduce the affect of global warming by shading the ground.
We live in the best country in the world, but we need to be reminded that we have a moral obligation to preserve the natural flora and fauna and the intrinsic value of nature.
I have no trouble with timber, if the timber derives from a private plantation and not from the public domain.
The industry was warned many years ago that to sustain the production of timber products they had to plant all the trees used for this purpose. They have failed miserably and are still demanding that the public subsidies the industry.
We know that the NSW hardwood Industry is a major financial loss to the public. I urge the Government to remove the industry from the public forest and stop the environmental vandalism we see perpetrated towards the habitat of the animals.
