The market reopens on Wednesday May 27 at 2.30pm in the Bellingen Park, Church St, Bellingen. The main entrance to the market will be on Church St, next to the tennis courts.
The new venue presents a great opportunity for the market to expand as support for local produce continues to grow. In addition, the venue is easily accessible for locals, is in walking distance from the Bellingen town centre and has the continued support of Bellingen Shire Council and the all-important local growers.
There is ample parking in surrounding streets and the car park at the back of the Memorial Hall. Additionally, there will be allocated Mobility Parking at the Church St entrance of the market - look for the blue Mobility sign on the side of the tennis courts.
According to market organiser, Louise Hensby, the market is deemed an "essential business" and she is pleased that the same local growers and producers will remain with the market.
"While COVID-19 has delivered uncertainty in many sectors including retail, it's also served to highlight the importance of building our local food economy," Louise said.
"I am sure that communities now have a better understanding of the need to protect and shore up an abundant food supply system."
There will be safety measures in place at the market to protect the health of patrons and stallholders. There will be volunteers assisting with gently reminding people of the need for physical distancing.
The market team also asks that for their safety and the safety of the community, do not attend the market if you have symptoms of the coronavirus and ask a friend or family member to do your shopping for you.
Given that we are in early stages of the easing of restrictions regarding the coronavirus, organisers ask that patrons still "shop and go".
Louise said she wished to thank everyone for their patience and support over the past few months as the team transitioned to the new venue.
"We encourage all our customers to visit the market and stock up on fresh food and pantry items and support our local farmers weekly. Eating fresh vegetables is a great way to keep our immune systems strong when we need it most," she said.
As well as a shop window for local food producers, the market offers opportunity for local small-scale hobby growers to contribute surplus chemical-free produce to the Community and Backyard Growers stall. New potential stallholders or contributors can phone 0402 564-206 or email Louise at bellingenfarmers@gmail.com.
