On holiday camping with his family at Urunga, he was fishing from a kayak in the Lido area at 9pm when a big one took his yabbie bait.
You can see Arran is delighted to be posing with his catch, a Mangrove Jack.
His dad Jeff Hughes said the fish was 45cm long and weighed over 1kg.
