The recent fire activity and the ongoing drought conditions in the Guy Fawkes River NP and at our holding facility has made for very tough conditions for these horses.
There have been a few hundred fatalities in the park and the horses that are being removed are quite poor. However, they do gain condition very quickly.
This is your opportunity to show your support, you don't have to buy a horse, your presence at our Open Day shows your interest, and you can buy a steak sandwich or a shirt.
The trapping program has been going full steam ahead, so we have plenty of horses for sale.
We will be showcasing previously trapped horses and demonstrating how versatile these horses are. This will include Light horse, packing, pony club, trick pony and a cutting horse demo.
There will be horse handling demonstrations after lunch using horses that have been freshly removed from the park. There will also be a demonstration of packing a horse for trekking.
The canteen will be open all day, come and join us for a bacon and egg roll and have a look around at the horses and our facilities that we have built up over the years.
Our Open Days are not just about selling horses, they are public awareness days, we are trying to raise awareness of the plight of the brumbies living out there in the wild in the National Park where they are considered a feral animal that needs to be removed.
We, on the other hand, consider them to be attractive, versatile, curious and friendly horses that are willing to try anything you put at them and become your lifelong friend at the same time. We are fully self-funded and run entirely by volunteers; because we think they deserve the option.
Gates open at 9.30am. Entry is $5 per person and kids under 12 are free, so come and see what the fuss is about and join us for a great day out.
Your purchase of morning tea and lunch from our canteen or merchandise will go towards funding our new facilities and continued care of our horses. Bookings would be appreciated for catering purposes. For enquiries, directions and bookings phone Erica Jessup on 0428575342 or Kate Young 0422198232.
