November marks the third anniversary of the death of Leonard Cohen, one of the most outstanding and prolific poet-songwriters of recent times.
From his early success with the single Suzanne, Cohen's music and poetry has influenced generations of writers and singers, including artists such as Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Jeff Buckley and Antony.
Well known for a literary-musical form he referred to as a 'temporal hymn', Cohen's work explored religion, personal loss, romance and sexuality, and - in his later work - politics, nationalism and international conflict.
Several of his songs, including his most widely-known Hallelujah, have featured in movie soundtracks.
In a tribute to the immense contribution that Leonard Cohen has made to contemporary music, Rob Simpson and friends will be performing renditions of Cohen's songs at No 5 Church St café-restaurant on Saturday November 16, from 7.15pm.
Rob is well known in the Bellingen area as a musician and songwriter, performing his own songs and selected covers at venues such as the Bellingen Winter Music Festival, Bellingen Community Markets and numerous other local venues.
Venue: No. 5, Church St, Bellingen
Date: Saturday 16th November 2019, 7.15 - 9.30pm
Free admission. Table bookings essential, phone 6655 0155.
