Miindala is the Bellingen, Coffs & Nambucca Shires chapter of NALAG (National Association for Loss and Grief). We are very happy to work together with the Bellingen Youth Hub to remember and celebrate the lives of the people we loved and are still in our hearts and minds. The ceremony is open to the whole community.
All Souls Day and the Day of the Dead are part of a long tradition in many countries around the world
"It seems even more poignant these days', says Anna Bloemhard, the coordinator of Miindala, "as people experience more unexpected deaths, sometimes chosen, which is especially hard to come to terms with. This event will be an opportunity to share our stories."
Dean Besley of the Youth Hub will MC the event. There will be music and an open mike to share poetry, stories and songs that celebrate our loved ones, a chill out tent and drumming. There will be a memorial photo board, and a remembrance tree to write messages on paper leaves. Chai, refreshments and a barbecue lunch are offered, as well as some children's activities. Miindala volunteers will be there to listen and support. Uncle Michael Jarrett (Micklo) will lead a circle at 1.30pm followed by releasing a flower into the river in remembrance
Please bring a flower, photos, letters or other memories of your loved one. You can write a letter, make a drawing, create a card with a photo, and if you like, involve the children too. Occasions such as this offer us the opportunity to support each other in remembering and honouring those who have died. The Day of the Dead is a celebration of their life.
Miindala is not associated with any religious organisation or philosophical outlook.
