They contacted the Department of Primary Industries, who have requested that locals keep an eye out for cane toads in the area.
DPI has a flyer on their website that explains how to identify a cane toad and what to do if you think you have found one.
It says to catch it but don't harm it, as it may actually be a native frog. Make sure you wear gloves, glasses and long sleeves before touching it. If you can do so safely, trap it in a well-ventilated, non-toxic container with a little water.
Take a picture of the animal and report it using the online form www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/biosecurityreport
