Titled 'Bondi Bedlam', this original play is a family-friendly whodunnit inspired by the popular television hit show Bondi Rescue. As always, the play is a co-creation developed from the actors' improvisation work and whole group plot development workshops and refined through the writing process.
'Bondi Bedlam' features a cast of colourful Bondi Beach characters - Strawsy and Sheila, the beach's premiere lifeguards, wannabe Instagram sensations Brit, Stace and Trine, Fred the pirate, old man Bootsy and Brandon, a seriously enthusiastic father who is convinced his equally enthusiastic (albeit athletically challenged) young son Timbo is destined for Olympic greatness.
Throw into this mix BBC television presenter Elizabeth Carter (renowned host of Travels Down Under), wealthy Melbourne businessman Ed and his Goth daughter Esme and the enigmatic Portuguese backpacker Mariana and things start to get pretty weird and wonderful.
There's someone stealing coffee, a stolen mega yacht and then, to top it all off, a mysterious death. Cue the arrival of Senior Detective Jeremy Schmidt. Unfortunately, however, when Schmidt strides on to the scene, the situation goes from bad to worse despite the efforts of his efficient offsider Detective Clarissa Kale. The investigation that follows can only be described as pure bedlam. Will the case be cracked before Bondi Beach's reputation is ruined forever?
Bellingen Drama School is now into its seventh year of working with young people in the shire. In that time, it has gained a reputation for putting on fun-filled shows for young and old.
The senior (10 - 15 year-old) group's productions are usually original and generally combine a mix of laugh aloud moments with a dash of social commentary. Many of the actors have been performing for a number of years and are confident and assured on the stage.
Come along to Memorial Hall at at 5pm on Saturday 21st September 21 and join these young people as they light up the stage in 'Bondi Bedlam'. Entry is by gold coin donation.
