Bellingen fought from behind throughout the day to no avail. The harsh conditions made fielding difficult for both sides, but defensive lapses were especially painful for the Brewers.
The Bluesox grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in B grade, after the Brewers left Jon Lowe stranded on the base paths in the top half of the frame after the first of his two doubles.
After a scoreless second inning, Bellingen edged ahead with two runs in the top of the third, with Lowe and Paul Holding scoring on Scott Hansen's sharp single. But the Bluesox answered with three runs to retake the lead, 4-2. Holding helped limit the damage with a slick pick off of a Woolgoolga runner at first base.
Bellingen cut the Bluesox lead to one with a run in the top of the fourth inning, as Cam Rutherford led off with a triple and scored on Luke Nelson's single. The Brewers then leveled the score 4-4 with another run in the top of the fifth, as Lowe led off with his second double and scored on Holding's single.
Woolgoolga quickly retook the lead, 8-4, with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, three coming with two out after a pitch Bellingen thought had been taken for strike three was called a ball.
After the teams traded single runs, the Brewers came up to bat for the final time trailing by four runs, 9-5. Holding led off with a walk, Hansen singled, then with two out, Nelson doubled, bringing the tying run to the plate, but the rally ended there.
Bellingen scored first in A grade, taking a 1-0 lead as Neil Davies scored on a wild pitch. Hansen took the mound for Bellingen, but could not repeat his pitching heroics of two weeks ago against the Allstars. The Bluesox pushed nine runs across the plate, with seven scoring after two were out, capped by Kurt Ramsay's grand slam home run.
The Brewers actually threatened to make a game of it in their next turn at bat, scoring five times to narrow the Woolgoolga lead to 9-6. Darren Jackson, Braiden Spalding and Nick Doves had hits in the rally, which was capped by a booming double from Cooper Bake-Smith.
The Bluesox scored a single run in reply, then Bellingen was shut down in the top of the third inning. Leading 10-6, Woolgoolga erupted in the bottom of the third for 9 more runs, including three more home runs, to close out the game.
Bellingen will look to get back on the winning track on Sunday against the Sawtell Dodgers.
