The decision to provide jackets, taken at the committee's June meeting, was quickly put into action with class teachers and administration staff working to size each student, approve embroidery and get a completed order away right on school holiday time.
This was a full scale, undercover operation completed and organised so the students and school families could be totally surprised with the P&C gift totalling almost $2500.
Surprised, yes, and totally delighted when the first day back at school was marked with the handing out of jackets then worn proudly and shown off for parents at school pick up.
It is not unusual for a committee to be small but hardworking and this is certainly the case for the DPS P&C Committee. The committee manages a volunteer roster providing a canteen service for two days each week, hosts special school lunch days, BBQs for visitors and runs annual stalls for Mothers' and Fathers' Day. And this September sees the addition of a Bunnings barbecue fundraiser added to the list.
All the little things add up, and this year alone the continued support of school parents and families has allowed the Dorrigo Public School P&C Committee to provide the school with $3000 to purchase five iPads complete with tough cases and charging cabinet; $1800 for workbook resources and $3600 to fund a 10 week, whole of school, gymnastics program.
Next on the list is the extension of wellbeing, mentoring and empowerment programs across the school to best utilise grant funding obtained by the P&C Committee.
