The Bill Turner Trophy Competition has been running for 29 years and involves over 400 schools both public and private from Northern Queensland through to southern NSW including the ACT.
This win puts Bellingen into the final 32 teams in the competition. Last year the team made it to the final 16 in the knockout comp.
The game held at Leisure Park on June 19 saw the Bellingen girls start strongly, consistently putting pressure on the CHHS goals.
Eight minutes into the game a great ball from Indianna Brodbeck put Pixie Hill in to space. Pixie made an incisive run and finished with a shot into the far corner. 1-0.
The Bellingen girls continued to attack the goal with last ditch defence holding them out. It was finally a corner from Sophie Boyd that went straight in the far corner of the goal that saw the score get to 2-0. At half time the girls were looking good.
The second half with the girls running into the wind saw more chances go begging. Then Coffs Harbour felt they had a chance and started to come back. They had a few corners after putting pressure on our defence and then converted one at far post. GAME ON! 2-1.
The Bellingen girls hung on strongly and ended up victors 2-1 in a game they should have/ could have finished earlier.
This win puts them against the winners of North Western NSW, which will be the winner out of Oxley HS from Tamworth and Armidale Secondary College ( that is Armidale HS and Duval HS combined).
The Bellingen girls will have to travel there early term three.
