The Youth girls put on an outstanding display of footy against the talented Macleay Valley Eagles, who had been the convincing winners at the last meeting five weeks ago.
The girls showed they meant business from the start with a four goal lead in the first quarter. Indy Brodbeck's dominance in the first half made her a target and she took a hard hit. She showed her resilience and was back in the second half to match it with them again.
The back line continued to shutdown MVE's opportunities and the third quarter saw the girls bag another five goals.
Katelyn Whyman and Orlaith Carey were dominant in the centre using their strength and skill to win the ball. It was great to see so many goal scorers with Teneika Coltman and Tehahni Berger kicking four each.
They all played hard, clean footy and it was an outstanding effort as a whole team. In the end it was 99 to 43. Exciting times edging towards finals. By Coach Marc Bowd
Under 13s
The Bulldogs under 13's hosted the Coffs Harbour Breakers at Burdett Park. Having won a one sided game against the Breakers last time, the Doggies were looking forward to a repeat performance ... which may however have caused some complacency with the Doggies sluggish for the first half and the scores even at the main break.
Bellingen managed to rouse themselves in the premiership quarter, piling on a bag of unanswered goals to take a big lead into the last term.
A couple of early goals to the Breakers in the last quarter saw the Doggies rise again, this time spurring on an improved defensive effort to ride out the last five minutes and record a comfortable 66 to 38 win.
Well done in particular to Darcy Brown with five goals and Jai Bowd for constantly turning defense into attack. The whole pack of Doggies, Max Cracknell and Alex Dyson in particular, showed great resilience to keep their focus on skillful clean footy in the face of some heavy physical and verbal attention.
Well done Doggies, let's keep up the good work against Grafton at Burdett Park next week! By Coach David Whitmore
Under 15s
The Dogs were up against Macleay Valley Eagles with the Eagles off to a quick lead in the first quarter but the Dogs hit back in the second and got back within two goals.
The Eagles then put the foot to the floor, winning the last two quarters. Even though the Dogs were down for much of the game, they never gave up, putting in 100 per cent right to the end.
Some players that stood out were Dom with his relentless pressure on the Eagles, Harrison going in hard for the football and Kyan giving run and carry as well as a solid mark, but the player of the day goes to Logan who seemed to create a wall in the back line, impacting almost all contests and stopping many goal attempts from the Eagles. Final score was 44:101. By Coach Jim Schreenan.
