David Helfgott is the star attraction for 2019. David played at the first festival and we are delighted that he is in Bellingen for our tenth anniversary. Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition is his choice for the concert. Former Bellingen music students and now rising stars Suzanne Sherrington (flute) and Lachlan Wilkins (violin) complete the program that night.
The much-loved Bellingen Youth Orchestra opens the festival along with the Acacia Quartet, who will again be performing brilliant compositions by local HSC music composition students. Acacia Quartet will be in concert again on Saturday morning performing young composer Alice Chance's A Sundried String Quartet, including the world premiere of the third movement. Acacia will also perform Beethoven's haunting String Quartet in C minor, Op. 18/4.
Saturday afternoon sees Ensemble Q, the vibrant, dynamic group led by cellist Trish O'Brien and clarinetist Paul Dean. Mozart, Schubert and the wonderful Clarinet Quintet by Jean Francaix appear in their program. Following the concert enjoy a free celebratory anniversary music event in the park.
Sunday is another big day with great fringe events, including a Chorus of Choirs, then two very fine concerts from other musical traditions. Oud player Joseph Tawadros, with brother James, on Sunday afternoon, and to end the Festival - four brilliant fine jazz musicians: Jonathan Zwarz, Carl Dewhurst, Julien Wilson and Hamish Stuart.
