The branch can assist, for starters, with the rooms being available; Margaret will speak with the Baby Clinic; Annette will contact Anna Joy. Any woman in town who would like to assist this cause is welcome to approach either the CWA or Robert Canning. It will be planned so that women of all ages can attend for two days - those with toddlers, schoolies, grandma's - all in together to help each other.
Alison discussed a list of community-based letters written to Council Forum and Create Bellingen regarding traffic safety for pedestrians, road surface conditions - Newry St and Minerva Lane, cemetery burial sites and recording, Dr Dunn being recognised with a plaque in the Crown Land Public Reserve next to his home in Morgo St; Atherton Drive erosion prevention - Wendy spoke on the problems for the Titavators and the Sailing Club building risks; persistence of cars leaving engines running with fumes blowing over those enjoying coffee at local cafes; sewerage outlet point to be 1.3km from the Lido into the wetland lagoon; entrance to Dalhousie Creek at Hungry Head to the surf. There was much discussion regarding the cemetery records compared to other cemeteries, resources and staffing. In addition, the progress and maintenance of the Nature Walk off the Boardwalk was raised - when will this be fixed or will the sign remain?
Wendy and Margaret's CWA Rooms Heritage Report on the building and events has been forwarded. Thoughts are going out to consider nominating any volunteers in the area for the NSW Volunteer of the Year Award 2019. Any nomination from Urunga will be via CWA Sydney.
Discussions and plans have been started towards the 2020 90-year aAnniversary of CWA Urunga Branch. The venue is still under review, however, anyone having 1930 vintage dress please wear it to enhance the atmosphere. Alison C will seek information on advertising in the Saturday SMH RSVP section with a photo, and the Daily Telegraph What's On, now to allow those living further away an opportunity to book the diary.
Next meeting will be at the CWA Rooms on June 14 at 9am.
