The first ever South West Rocks Marlins women's rugby league side will make their debut in the Hastings League season opener on the road against Beechwood this Saturday.
Co-coach Amelia Blair is looking forward to stepping onto the field with her teammates for the first time.
"It is pretty special to be a part of the first ever Marlins women's rugby league team," Blair told the Argus.
"The creation of the team is good for the young girls coming through and for the next generation, who will have a women's team to play in."
The Marlins side will begin the season with depth, as they have 21 players registered.
While Blair is hoping to start the season with a win, she said the outcome of the game isn't important.
"I hope we win but I am not worried about the result," Blair said.
"It's about setting up for the future."
Despite the Marlins making their debut this season, the side has a surprising amount of experience.
"The majority of the players have experience playing rugby league or have had some involvement in the sport in the past," Blair said.
