The sun was out in full force and so was Nambucca 2nd division taking an early lead in what was looking to be a tight contest. Bellingen were trying to retain the ball but the boys from the coast made life hard for the likes of Josh Weldon and Bill Hart, pressuring their every move.
Unfortunately it was not Bello's day with the men going down 4-2, after a game that didn't quite reach the heights of their 13-1 win against Boambee Bombers the week before!
At 3pm with the sun still hot, a new look Bellingen 1st Division side graced the shire grounds for the first time this year.
The game started with intensity; the first ten minutes seeing Bellingen hit the post twice in attack and goalkeeper Saxon Spillet forced to do a brilliant save down the other end.
However, half time came with 0-0. The team, once again, amped up the intensity in the second half knowing they were well deserving of the win. Loads of work from Tom Willett in the midfield and many combos down the right wing from Jordan Tree to Sam Dilitis had the Bellingen men on the attack.
Fast switches of play also made holes in Nambucca's defence yet Bellingen could not seem to finish this pleasing attack with a goal.
Deep into the second half, Jai Wadick was taken out in a dangerous run in 18-yard box and Bellingen were awarded a penalty shot. The crowd watched on in hope that this would seal the men a well-deserved win.
Henry Gale stepped up to dispatch the ball into the side netting for an unstoppable shot and the rest was history.
Bellingen was now up 1-0 with 15 minutes to go! The game continued in the same fashion, with Nambucca barely making way into Bellingen's half of the field as the back line held a calm and collected defence.
Tom Rixon had a the final clear cut chance of the game but released too early.
"I think they are still looking for the ball," said captain Henry Gale.
The game ended with the score 1-0 and another 3 points for Bellingen.
The next competitive match will be up in Coutts Crossing and in Dorrigo on April 27.
