With no flood markers at a bout 10pm the woman drove into what turned out to be deeper than expected waters across Gordonville Rd, just north of McFadyens Bridge following a deluge in the area earlier in the evening.
SES Local Controller Bill Rothe said with heavy falls upstream, the river had burst its banks at a point where it normally flowed around a sharp bend.
"The water was over the road and one of the Urunga crew members had to don the gear for a swift water rescue," Mr Rothe said.
"It was an intense storm cell that saw us have to rescue two people on the other side of the mountain stranded in Bindarri National Park."
Mr Rothe said the woman was unharmed and was driven home by SES volunteers after the rescue.
"Apparently a similar incident happened here some eight weeks ago. There is a clear need for flood markers at this point and we have raised the matter with Bellingen Shire Council."
