Not whether you voted for incumbent MP Melinda Pavey or the flotilla of challengers.
No, the contention surrounded the correct way to serve a sausage sanger. It's an Australian question as emotive as whether you drive forward or reverse into when parallel parking as parodied by George Costanza in an episode of Seinfold.
Specifically, do you put the sauteed onions on the bread first, then the sausage - or the other way around?
Our exit polling at the polling booth barbecue stands indicated a near 50-50 split.
The controversy was avoided altogether at Nambucca Heads Public School, where despite lengthy lines of voters this afternoon, there was not a tong in sight.
Most voters were happy to share their thoughts though on the issues which matter as the State decides.
Peter Savage:
"Climate change and no stadiums for me."
Martha and Lew Hodnett:
"Work opportunities, especially for the young people. It's hard for them to find work."
Robyn and Kim Brain:
"We've only been here for a couple of years so we're not really aware of the area's needs. I'm ex-Country Party but I've given up on them and personally I can't stand Labor," Kim said.
Elaine Cowin:
"I'd like to see more help for people out on the land. I can't see why we're spending millions of dollars on stadiums when it could be used on other things."
Gloria and Bill Welsh:
"It's all pretty straightforward (the issues). They can't fix my bad back though," Bill said.
Richard Auld:
"There's plenty of issues - health and education of course. The hospital system needs shaking up, that's the main thing. I'm not sure if it's the council or the State, but as far as tourism goes they are doing a good job."
