The Riverside Holiday Resort Urunga has received a $950,000 federal government grant to help expand its facilities.

Announcing the funding on Tuesday, Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker said the the resort was a major contributor to the Urunga economy.
"It is a great local project and great facility. The Riverside Holiday Resort is very affordable and a great asset for the area," Mr Hartsuyker said.
The Federation of Community Sporting and Working Clubs (FCSWC) runs the resort and has a particular emphasis on providing more accessible facilities to disabled holidaymakers.
"This emphasis was undoubtedly a big factor in the success of the application for financial support," Mr Hartsuyker said. "Urunga is a great holiday destination for anybody, with all the recreational opportunities the area offers, but it is commendable when a business takes into account special needs."
The Urunga-based resort currently has 32 units, several of which are wheelchair accessible. There are also interconnected pathways that make it easy for guests who use wheelchairs to move around. This is in addition to the hydro-lift at the pool.
"Two of the eight new units will be wheelchair friendly; we are also looking to add a storage shed, extra car parks and triple the size of our front office," CEO of the FCSWC Ken Conway said.
"We are hoping to start construction by the 6th of May, and if all goes to plan and we don't get severe weather, the project will finish up at the end of February."
The grant comes from the Commonwealth's Building Better Regions Fund and is a contribution to the nearly $3 million project.
"The plans to upgrade have been in the works for a while, this grant has allowed us to do it two years' early," Mr Conway said.
"The grant submission has taken months of planning, Sam Wardman from Cornerpost Marketing Consultants has been invaluable, she polished the submission and crunched the numbers on how this would benefit the local economy."
Aside from the benefits to Urunga that the Riverside Holiday Resort provides, the construction is expected to give a boost to the local economy as well.
"Local labour and supplies will be used in the upgrade; we are using a local building company; we should get those contracts signed sometime next week," Mr Conway said.
"We are very proud of the product we are offering, and of the emphasis we put on making the experience of a holiday in Urunga accessible to all."
