The senior team have finished the season strongly playing for a draw against Sawtell and then taking three away wins in a row over Diggers, Coffs Colts and Nana Glen.
The last win, to take a place in the grand final, wasn't to be with Dorrigo going down to a stronger Northern Districts team late on the second day of play to be defeated 138 to 98.
Northern Districts will now meet Sawtell next Saturday March 23 at Richardson Park to decide the second grade premiership for the 2018/19 season.
The Junior Premiership is still not decided with the weather the only winner from last Saturday's planned Under 12s grand final.
Two teams of juniors arrived at Dorrigo eager for an early start but could only watch on as the field and pitch were brushed and blown in the hope of making a grand final start.
Light rain and heavy skies only added to the quandary as coaches Justin Gilbert and Carl Cooper walked the pitch, assessed the run up and then, stood in the rain.
In the end there could only be one decision - weather would affect the quality of the game and the safety of the bowlers run up, particularly for the pace bowlers in each team - the grand final was off.
An extra week in the junior round means the season is not over yet with Macksville to return to Dorrigo next Saturday for a final chance to play the all important grand final.
For both junior teams it means a prolonged build up to the game the kids just want to play.
Macksville and Dorrigo are very evenly matched having both finished their final season rounds strongly.
Each team is carrying representative and academy grade players with quality and depth right down their line up.
Both teams know what the other is capable of - the kids know who spins, who hits, who has pace and where the safe hands are.
They know who they want to face and who they want to bowl to.
It's not First Grade and it's not the BBL but don't tell that to the Under 12s - this is the biggest match of their season, the decider, the CHDJCA Grand Final.
Play is scheduled for 8.30am this Saturday March 23 at Rowe Oval, Dorrigo.
