Dragon boat paddling can help you achieve all of those goals.
Dragon boating will help to increase strength, endurance, coordination and is a great core-specific workout. It also works the upper body, legs and stomach while increasing cardiovascular fitness and improving bone density.
And the benefits of dragon boating don’t stop there. As well as the obvious fitness benefits, paddling is fun and enjoyable and creates new friendships. In fact it is the ultimate team sport and one of the world’s fastest growing water sports.
Although dragon boating is an ancient Chinese sport dating back to 400BC, today it is a modern sport enjoyed by millions of participants worldwide. Because dragon boating has a strong representation of women and breast cancer survivors, there is a misconception that it's a sport just for women. It's not. In New South Wales alone over a thousand men enjoy this dynamic sport and partake in challenging inter-club competition.
The local Coffs Coast Dragon Boat Club has an active men’s crew and is seeking new members to expand the team. Men are invited to come along and try dragon boating on Saturday March 9 on the Bellinger River at Mylestom at a specific Men’s Come and Try day.
If you are a man who is interested in taking up a new exhilarating challenge, the men’s Come and Try session will commence at 8.30am for 9.00am on the water and last for approximately one hour. The session will be followed by refreshments on the river bank and a chance to chat with club members.
The Coffs Coast Club is governed by Dragon Boats NSW Inc. and qualified coaches will be on hand to demonstrate the right paddling techniques. All equipment will be supplied on the day.
Look for the majestic dragon boats at the boat ramp opposite the North Beach Recreation and Bowling Club on the Bellingen River at Mylestom. To book your space on the boat or for further information contact 0418 953882 or email coffscoastdbc@gmail.com.
