The most recent occurred yesterday at about 2pm, when the white car in the photo flipped onto its roof near the Post Office, presumably having misjudged the turn from Hyde St into Bridge St.
An additional turning lane coming out of Bridge St was added along with a pedestrian refuge.
Discussion on social media has suggested a set of traffic lights are needed here, but when the Courier-Sun spoke to Bellingen Shire Council's Matt Fanning about this in May, he said traffic lights would be too expensive to install and maintain.
“I would have liked a roundabout there,” he said. “I looked into having an oval-shaped one. But the right-turn by heavy vehicles would be too difficult. There simply isn’t the width required.”
On Saturday (or more likely on Friday night) another driver failed to negotiate the roundabout on Wheatley St near the Providore, flattening a sign on the western approach and running right over the bushes in the centre.
