On offer will be a wide variety of tropical, sub-tropical, native, exotic and food-bearing species, garden furniture, equipment, supplies and information stalls from local organisations.

Plant identification workshops, activities, food and musicians have also been organised; entry is free.

The plant fair is a fundraiser for the Bellingen Environment Centre and sponsored by the Bellingen Shire Residents' Association.

Tropical palms, ferns, fruit trees and garden vegetables will all be offered; conditions couldn’t be better to set your garden up with this flora.

"This year sees the return of bamboo, and of course there is the quality and choice of native plants that sets this market apart from all others," plant fair coordinator Clayton said.

"The wonderful Growers' Market is joining the plant fair again this autumn and will be situated under the shade along the Park Street avenue of trees.

"After fuelling up on Amelia Franklin’s fine coffee, or trying the tasty and exotic food stalls, relax at the stage and enjoy the poetic music of Joe Newton."

Visitors are reminded the plant fair is plastic free, so bring your own carrying container or purchase one from the BEC Headquarters at Stall 18.

"We will also take your used plastic pots (unbroken, quality and clean) for reuse by sellers," Clayton said. 

The 2019 Autumn Plant Fair is held in Market Park, in Church Street Bellingen and opens at 8am on Saturday, March 9.

It's a colourful and fragrant event that helps make Bellingen such a bright spot on the tourist trail.

Gardeners looking to plant in this cooling weather should consider snow peas, radishes, garlic, kale and pak choi.
