The Bellingen-Urunga-Dorrigo (BUDs) rugby side is always keen to greet new players, so if you are 35 or over, like a game of footy, a beer and good company (not necessarily in that order!) this is the sport for you.
You can attend “training” at Urunga touch on Wednesday nights at 6pm (not compulsory) or contact Paul Bastick (0403739940) or email pbastick@lism.catholic.edu.au for more information.
The first gala day of the season is at Port Macquarie on Saturday March 2 with players itching to see if the stringent off-season training regime of beer, port and pies has paid off. There is a bus heading down and numbers are filling fast so contact Darren Taylor to book your seat.
Big plans are afoot for the season ahead with plenty of gala days (you don’t have to play in all of them) including our own big Easter weekend of rugby and fraternity, an end of season trip to play at Evans Head plus much more.
BUD’s big Easter rugby weekend kicks off with a golf day at Bellingen golf course on Good Friday April 19. This will be a 3-person-ambrose event sponsored by Coopers and the Bello golf club. This will be followed by a rugby gala day at Urunga on Saturday April 20. Clear your calendar, tell the wife and get set for a great weekend in the Bellingen Valley!
For all you fence sitters, go to the medical cupboard, pull out an old tube of Dencorub, have a big sniff and come and have a go. Life’s too short for what ifs and if onlies!
Golden Oldies Rugby is based on the principles of fun, friendship and fraternity - get into it!
The rain has played havoc with the training and playing schedules for the BUDs Golden Oldies Rugby Union side. Good numbers have attended sign on days but the first gala day at Port clashes with a myriad other social functions.
So, the BUDs will be hosting the first gala day of the season (weather permitting) at Urunga Recreation Reserve on Saturday April 8. Teams from Port to Yamba are likely to be in attendance to ensure a solid hit out for all players.
Any new players are always welcome, but need to be registered for insurance purposes. Rego/Insurance is $50 and Jersey etc are available for purchase.
For those still to sign up, contact President Ian “fastest man over 50” Smith at iansmith4@hotmail.com .Gary ”Tele or herald” Howe at the Bello Newsagency, Gary “Prince” Matthews at all the usual Urunga haunts or any other player.
We need as many members as possible to play and/or help on the day, everyone should be on the email list, and it is important that you reply as to your availability, yes or no (it doesn’t matter) so that plans can be made. To get on this list drop a line to Ian Smith.
