Megan Simpson and John set up a Glitter tent and among those tattooed was Uncle Bud. Megan adhered tats to his legs and arms which he wore proudly onto the stage for his part in the ceremonies.
We made various posters for the event promoting the CWA, such as "Chicks with Attitude", the old "Cranky Women's Association", "Compassionate Country Women", "Convivial Country women" and "Connecting Country Women".
Our greatest project for 2019 is planning and preparing for Urunga CWA branch's 90th birthday next February.
Anyone with anecdotes, photos, clippings that could be used are asked to post them into the Urunga CWA Rooms. Please mark if they are to be returned.
At our February meeting, Margaret Grice Little welcomed everyone back from a long Christmas New Year break.
Thoughts, prayers and a card were sent to long time member, Annette Sparks, who lost her Mum, Marie Patmore.
Birthday wisher Rhondda Spencer has been innovative in researching members' special days. Rhonnda used Margaret Grice-Little’s day to introduce her method – Australian Flower of the month (rock daisy), the stone (amethyst) and a noted Australian having a birthday that month.
Cultural/International discussion at our meeting was led by Megan Simpson. The topic considered how the women in New Guinea receive help from various organisations, while remembering that many still wish to follow their ‘traditional’ way of life and childbirth. This may be seen by other cultures as disadvantageous to the women’s health, however, respect is required.
The first ‘Hall committee’ meeting has been held. Any other members wishing to attend are most welcome. Firstly, the aim is to re-present the history of Urunga CWA. Urunga Museum has been helpful with archived items.
Laraine Bojarski has been visiting those not feeling the best or incapacitated at the moment. She saw Mary Counsell who is living at Bellorana, Aileen Bell and Diana Renaud. Thanks Laraine. Your efforts are appreciated especially the distance to see these members.
Next meeting will be March 8 at 9am. Anna Joy from Bellingen Council will be the guest speaker, discussing her community-related position.
