New sailing courses commence on February 9, 2019 running from 10.30am to 2pm on a Saturday for six weeks.
Urunga Sail Training Club is an accredited Australian Sailing (AS) ‘Discover Sailing’ Training Centre teaching ‘start sailing 1 and 2’ and ‘Better sailing’ courses by accredited sailing instructors.
Instructors have a wide diversity of sailing experience having sailed in many different boats both large and small and are able to easily adapt to the needs and abilities of students. All of the Australia sailing courses taught at the USTC are for beginners and anyone wanting to brush up on their sailing skills - so no experience is necessary.
Volunteer expert instructors will share their knowledge and passion of sailing to help you learn safely and with confidence. You will learn how to skipper and crew a sailing dinghy, begin to understand the mysterious language of sailing, the bits on boats and rigging, safe boat launch and retrieval, capsize recovery drills, reading the tides and weather conditions, know the ‘rules of the road’ and who has right of way over whom and much more.
As well as being great for all ages, sailing is a wonderful sport for kids from grade three and up, as it encourages both mental and physical ability, in addition to promoting a healthy, active outdoors lifestyle.
Sailing lessons teach juniors and teenagers so many valuable life lessons like decision making, resilience, leadership, teamwork and communication in a fun and healthy environment. The Urunga Sail Training Club have also taught sailing to Headspace school students.
One senior instructor started out as a Headspace student, completing the ‘start sailing 1 and 2’ course, then went onto assistant instructor, powerboat and safety boat training before becoming a senior instructor and now teaches these skills to others in the community.
The club also provides Australian Sailing pathways and programs to NSW and Australian wide competition sailing.
We believe in making sailing available to everyone so come and meet new people to go sailing with and have lots of fun among the many other things you will learn and do. To begin a new sailing journey, book a place on the new course at info@sailurunga.org.au.
