Bogus Yellow Bin collection
Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who fell for the notice in the Coffs Advocate advising of an additional recycling bin collection over the holiday period. I duly put my yellow bin out on the 2nd, and was disappointed when it wasn't collected until I read the extremely fine print in the notice that it was for "eligible Coffs Harbour households only". Perhaps Bellingen Council could consider this next Christmas?

Yellow waste services
Once again I have to question the benefits of the people within our shire remaining loyal to Bellingen Shire Council. I note with interest that Coffs Council arranged for an additional yellow bin service to be conducted over the Christmas period. Not so the Bellingen Council. This supposedly “Green” Council has opted for recycled waste to be allowed to overflow whilst the better managed Coffs Council did the right thing and put on additional services. In my street alone four of the six residents placed their yellow bins out with the red and green bins. The bins will obviously will be there till next week.
When I rang Coffs Coast Waste Services they quickly advised that Bellingen residents were not entitled to the additional service and that the recent advertisements had in very small print that Coffs Harbour Council were the only areas to have the additional services.
If the Greens who run Bellingen Shire Council cannot manage recycled waste management what hope do we have if they get into State and Federal Government.

Response from Council
The advertisement placed by Coffs Harbour City Council stated that their extra yellow bin collection related to Coffs Harbour council residents only. Coffs Council pays extra for this service (to the contractor) and that would be reflected in the rates for waste charged to Coffs Harbour residents.
Bellingen Council has considered increasing the level of service to include an extra yellow bin pick up over the Christmas and New Year period however, given it would result in a rate increase to cover the extra costs, and given Bellingen Shire Residents are able to take up to half a cubic metre (0.5m3) of recyclable materials free of charge to all three waste management centres located at Raleigh, Bellingen and Dorrigo at any time during opening hours, all year round, we have chosen to leave the current service levels as they are and not increase the waste rates further by adding in another service.
Any rate-payer of Bellingen Shire can dispose of extra domestic recycling material up to half a cubic metre at all three waste management centres at any time of the year, including during opening hours over the Christmas and New Year period every year.
