Urunga CWA’s last meeting for 2018 was held on December 14, the year finishing with a salad spread prepared by Emily Folichi at the Liberty Providores at Urunga. Everyone present enjoyed the food and the pleasant setting inside in the cool breeze.

The branch turns 90 in 2020 and plans are in hand for a great celebration. Does anyone out there have any stories about Urunga CWA of older times? For example, when the Rooms were transferred and the fun surrounding that event, the Sylvia Frame for polio patients, foundation times that Bellingen or Raleigh/Repton may have recorded.
Urunga Branch has a busy calendar for 2019. Contact Margaret for a copy of the calendar, and for function details for member participation with cooking and handicrafts. Urunga will be providing the trading table at Coffs Harbour Group Meeting on June 19.
Two new committees have been formed to work towards improving the building for hiring – a Heritage Committee and Room Hiring policies and procedures. Margaret, Annette and Wendy have been successful with an application for assistance from Essential Energy. Plans are to use this grant to upgrade the blinds and to raise funds for an air conditioner to better meet members and hirers comfort.
Raising funds is a priority during 2019. This year the CWA of NSW is raising funds for research into endometriosis. Members will be walking around events with a blue and white bucket for this cause.
Training for the new defibrillator and basic first aid update are being organised in the next few months.
There were no birthdays this month, however, we have new nannas – Megan and Laraine – congratulations, ladies.
Member Megan Simpson attended the High School presentation day to present the Urunga CWA award to Tahahni Berger. Tahahni is a year 7 student who received the award for providing outstanding service to her community. Urunga CWA requested a non-academic award. Megan reminded her that ‘girls can do’.
Welcome to new member Barbara, whose local knowledge and sewing skills will be invaluable.
MERRY CHRISTMAS to all our readers and supporters.
