President of the Bellingen Community Arts Council Rosie Wickert welcomed everyone and the proceedings began with the presentation of the Youth Encouragement Award for Visual Arts 2018.
Rosie explained as a result of the disappointing decision not to hold the annual Youth Art Prize this year the BCAC committee strongly wished to continue to support young artists in the Bellingen Shire.
The art departments of Bellingen and Dorrigo High School were approached and asked to nominate one Year 12 art student to receive an award of $1000.
The aim was to assist the students as they moved from school to further education and to encourage their future art development.
The recipients of the award were Izabelle Hansen from Dorrigo and Brady Sharkey from Bellingen, who accepted their certificates and cheques to much applause.
Their HSC work was on display for the occasion, Droplets and Downpours by Izabelle and Person-ifeye by Brady.
Following this happy start Rosie went on to record a successful year for Nexus, the Fine Music Festival, Wilderness Walks and Mixed Up Art with the ongoing project at The Stables.
She thanked the many volunteers who contribute so much to all these events which operate under the BCAC umbrella. She then declared the Members Show open.
“Christmas Crackers” continue through the festive season daily until January 18. It is indeed a “cracker”, so don’t miss it.
