This was an invitation only event where competitors had to place at an earlier tournament to qualify.
Jade had previously gained a 2nd place in the advanced-expert weapons division and a 4th place in the open-hand Kata (advanced-expert division) at the ISKA Australian Open held in October at the same venue.
Jade gained a 1st place in the 13-14 year age category for Traditional Weapons. She also came in 4th place for Traditional Kata missing out on third place by only 0.01 points.
This was an outstanding achievement especially in the light of being the only non-black belt at the competition. Further, due to her 1st place, she qualified to enter the Grand Championships at the end of the day in which she competed against all age groups. She performed admirably, beating numerous competitors, but was outclassed by a competitor who was the world champion.
Local instructor, Werner Koudela, was obviously very pleased with her results, stating that Jade had exceptional talent and dedication. “We are only seeing the beginnings of Jade’s career. With ongoing training, no pinnacle is out of her reach,” he said.
