It has been a rewarding year for Rivers, operating in the new Hyde St venue.
Performance teams had successful results at Grafton, Coffs Harbour and Toowoomba Dance Eisteddfods, while our recreational students have progressed forward in leaps and bounds.
We are super excited to bring an original and creative classical ballet this year, choreographed by Lainey Anthony, whose dream of producing a full-length ballet has come to fruition as well as many local artists and creators who have been working hard in collaboration on the intricate costuming, props and backdrops.
Gabrielle Tindall is one of the many creative souls constructing the costuming and headpieces for the main characters.
“I was thrilled to be asked to make costumes for Rivers Dance Centre this year,” she said.. “I've been using EVA foam to construct the heads and wings for the lorikeets, kookaburras, turtles and bats plus adding glitter and day-glo paint to make a colourful and magical result just like the animals of the Promised Land."
Bernadette Divola is another featured artist with her works included in our streetscape backdrop. These works were taken from her book Pearlie's Big Bello Adventure showcasing her famous 'Lolly Shop' and 'Gelato bar' drawings, which have been lovingly hand-painted by our own Rivers teacher Amelia Barbaresco.
The story tells the tale of a young Bellingen girl who finds herself lost and alone at a picnic at the Never Never creek. She of course finds her way home with the help of nature spirits and her own guiding intuition. The audience can follow her journey , meeting some favourite Bellingen people along the way and celebrating the little town of Bellingen that we love and call home.
The second section of our show includes all the variety, recreational and performance team students from three years of age to adults coming together to bring you a tasteful, energetic and visually stimulating performance with a feast of modern choreography, music and lighting to awaken your senses and take you to a super feel-good zone!
The show finishes with 140 students rocking the stage in the ‘90s Hip-hop finale mash, which includes a surprise and routine you will not want to miss!
