The SMILE initiative, which stands for Support, Mentor, Inspire, Listen and Encourage, encourages compassionate connections between older and younger students in NSW schools.
“They were approached by St Mary's for advice on their bathroom doors and in the end, went along to help every Friday afternoon for four weeks,” said Bellingen High teacher, Frieda Passway Gorman.
The toilets now have brightly-coloured, positive messages about kindness and believing in yourself.
Year 12 students who were involved included Tomas, Abby, Sian, Kelsey, Teegan, Janardan, Rebecca and Abi.
